Question

Joe wants to know: “If I narrow my stance with my irons, it seems to give me great results. What can I do to get rid of my inconsistencies with my driver?”

Bobby’s Answer

Great question, Joe! Narrowing your stance is one way to do it- although it kind of “cheats” the forward swing bottom rule, because it reduces use of the workhorse to achieve that dynamic. Then, when it comes time to use your driver, and you’re still not using your workhorse, you’re going to be in big trouble. Watch the video for my recommendations on how to be more consistent with your driver.

  1. Bobby I recently switched to left hand low putting grip, i’ve seen improvement with my short putting game but struggle with getting the right distance on puts over 5-8 feet. Any advice would be much appreciated.

  2. Hi,
I notice that the marks on my impact tape on my driver that I swing in my warehouse are 1/2 to 3/4 high , what should I do , lower the ball on the tee? I tried moving it forward . Thanks!!!

  3. Hello Bobby

I am big fan of your teaching system. Can you please provide some drills for developing the workhorse!

    Thanks again

  4. With regard to grip pressure, On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most pressure.
What is a good rule of thumb? Should the grip pressure be equal with both hands? Does the amount of pressure change between Irons and Driver?

Hi Bobby,

Really enjoyed your videos and all the information. I have a question about release. Do you prefer an active release using aiming point, or do you prefer a float loading action, where in effect you never try to release; it just occurs naturally?

I am struggling to maintain a consistent golf swing. When I practice my swing, I feel great, but when I go to the range or the Tee Box, I can’t hit the ball consistently. Do you know what the problem is and can you recommend any drills to fix this?

Bobby, how to you judge the distance that the ball will carry out of the sand? Is there a formula you use to judge the amount of back swing?

Hi Bobby,

I recall during the Porter Cup you gave me a tip on pitch shots… to wait until you feel the weight of the club in your right index finger before pulling down. It works to this day! But I never did learn how to hit down on the ball and take that divot after the strike. So, I think you’re onto something, but at age 78 I’m not sure if I can learn it. But I’m willing to give it a try, so any tips you can provide would be appreciated.

Bobby, I notice your right foot slips minutely clockwise as you initiate the downswing. I think this is actually a good drill to practice. Keeps the right heel down and facilitates a slide rather than a spin into the downswing.
