Bobby’s Answer

Tom, this is a great question. In fact, there are many misconceptions about this very subject. I’ll tell you what I think release is, and when you do it- in today’s video.

it. How can I review that? I am a new Impact Zone Alumni, Tom Obrien.

    1. Everyone watching these tips is not an “advanced” player. If the tip doesn’t apply to you, ignore it and move on. There is no reason to make snide comments.

  3. Bobby , There’s no way you can delay the release with the left wrist ,the release happens by itself ,the wrists are loose ,and it’s only because you rotate the hips fast that the release is delayed

  4. BOBBY, I FIND YOU TO BE ONE OF THE BEST INSTRUCTORS I HAVE WATCHED, BUT YOUR MANY YEARS INSTRUCTING ARE PALE TO WHAT THEY COULD BE SHOULD YOU SLOW DOWN THE SPEED OF YOUR NICE SHOTS SO THAT GOLFERS SUCH AS I COULD STUDY WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AS WE WATCH FOR THE DEMONSTRATION AS YOU SWING. WHILE YOU SAY THAT THE SHOT IS NICE, WOULD IT BE EVEN NICER IF WE COULD ACTUALLY SEE WHY IT IS SO?

  5. Hi Bobby, I think i am having trouble with the transition. In my DS i hold the lag < pretty good. What i do not feel is speed of the club and weight of the club. My ball flight is straight and low. I am 82 so my distance is not present ( Driver goes on avg 175 yds.) . How can i whip the club thru the hittingzone?

    Thank You
    Lee

  6. Jack Nicklaus always maintained that he released the club immediately once he got the club 2 the top.

  7. Hello Bobby, I am a brand new Impact Zone member. Can you please explain how the principles of the impact zone apply to hitting the driver?
    Thank you,
    Jim

Hi Bobby,

Really enjoyed your videos and all the information. I have a question about release. Do you prefer an active release using aiming point, or do you prefer a float loading action, where in effect you never try to release; it just occurs naturally?

I am struggling to maintain a consistent golf swing. When I practice my swing, I feel great, but when I go to the range or the Tee Box, I can’t hit the ball consistently. Do you know what the problem is and can you recommend any drills to fix this?

Bobby, how to you judge the distance that the ball will carry out of the sand? Is there a formula you use to judge the amount of back swing?

Hi Bobby,

I recall during the Porter Cup you gave me a tip on pitch shots… to wait until you feel the weight of the club in your right index finger before pulling down. It works to this day! But I never did learn how to hit down on the ball and take that divot after the strike. So, I think you’re onto something, but at age 78 I’m not sure if I can learn it. But I’m willing to give it a try, so any tips you can provide would be appreciated.

Bobby, I notice your right foot slips minutely clockwise as you initiate the downswing. I think this is actually a good drill to practice. Keeps the right heel down and facilitates a slide rather than a spin into the downswing.
