Question

I’m confused how to hit a fade. Do I have to change my swing bottom or aiming point?

Bobby’s Answer

Great question, Walter. And the answer is- no, you don’t need to change you swing bottom or your aiming point. But, you do have to rotate dynamic #5, and you also need to understand the relationship between path and clubface. I explain and demonstrate in today’s video.

  1. Bobby… having a shot tracker would really enhance the learning… when you hit that shot… couldn’t see the ball… sometimes the verbiage alone isn’t enough… THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US

  2. John Young’s comment is right on target. A tracking system would greatly enhance not only the validity of your comments and teachings but also gives the student a visual of the proper flight of a fade. I never believed a fade is just a small slice, just as a draw is not the same as a snap hook. Thanks for all your pointers.

  3. Hey Bobby,
I’ve been fighting this for a while but can’t seem to rectify hitting all my clubs on the toe. I usually compensate on the driver and other woods by addressing the ball a bit toward the heel of the club pre-swing which seems to work sometimes but I really don’t want to do this on the irons for fear of a shank. Any help?
    Thanks
    Mike

  4. I have a question regarding my driver. My best swing produces a high draw, but every round I have swings where my driver hits the ground first, causing the club to snap shut and hit a disastrous low hook. What causes this “drop-kick”, and how do I correct it?

I am struggling to maintain a consistent golf swing. When I practice my swing, I feel great, but when I go to the range or the Tee Box, I can’t hit the ball consistently. Do you know what the problem is and can you recommend any drills to fix this?

Bobby, how to you judge the distance that the ball will carry out of the sand? Is there a formula you use to judge the amount of back swing?

Hi Bobby,

I recall during the Porter Cup you gave me a tip on pitch shots… to wait until you feel the weight of the club in your right index finger before pulling down. It works to this day! But I never did learn how to hit down on the ball and take that divot after the strike. So, I think you’re onto something, but at age 78 I’m not sure if I can learn it. But I’m willing to give it a try, so any tips you can provide would be appreciated.

Bobby, I notice your right foot slips minutely clockwise as you initiate the downswing. I think this is actually a good drill to practice. Keeps the right heel down and facilitates a slide rather than a spin into the downswing.

I can’t seem to find a starter for my backswing. I stand over the shot too long, and I seem to freeze there. I’m 76 years old and play to a 12 index.
