Bobby’s Answer

Hi Tim,

That’s a basic question, but a great one! It is just as important to hit the ball far as it is to be accurate and consistent with every shot.

The 5 Dynamics of Impact give you maximum margin of error, consistency, and accuracy.

Within the 5 Dynamics, your power comes from your ability to utilize the load, lag, and workhorse. This sequence works to move the swing bottom forward & increase your club head speed.

But how do load, lag & the workhorse benefit your swing? Simply put, each step can be broken down like this:

  • Load: hinging the wrist at the top of the back swing loads the club and generates more speed in the downswing.
  • Lag: the more angle you can produce in the downswing, and the amount of time you can maintain that angle (quality of lag) will move the maximum accelerating point closest to the golf ball.
  • Workhorse: from the ground up, the workhorse rotates your hips and moves them laterally to generate the 4 inch in front swing bottom.

So…if you have the 5 Dynamics, how can you add more distance to your swing?

The answer lies within one word: speed.

Watch the video below to hear about the amazing benefits of training your body to quickly utilize the load, lag, and workhorse.

    1. I feel that iron shots are about set up first and swing shape second. Ball position is crucial if your club face has very little margin for error. Try setting up 10 balls with different ball positions in relation to the middle of your chest. Then try to hit them with the same swing shape (upright, shallow, outside in, inside out, etc). This will help YOU figure out how to use YOUR swing to hit the irons where you want them to go. Once you get a feel of what ball position and swing shape has what result you will have more confidence to set up and execute the shot you want to execute.
