Question

“In the Clampett’s Corner you did with Bill Glasson, he agreed with you that Clubhead Lag is the key to great golf, but he mentioned that faster handle speed was the way to achieve it. Any drills to ingrain that thought?”

Bobby’s Answer

Great question, Nicolas. Clubhead lag is one of my favorite topics, and Bill is absolutely right. And yes- I do have a great drill for faster handle speed. It’s a simple, easy drill that you can and should do over and over. Watch the video for my demonstration.

  1. Bobby –

I’ve been watching your drills for some time and I think that this is the best one you’ve come up with to demostrate how to create lag..

  2. I don’t understand handle speed. Your video swing is too fast. Can you show us in slow motion what the club head is doing in relation to the handle? “The workhorse delivering the arms and hands”

    1. All THE measurements made show That THE hands ,therefore THE handle OF THE club goes THE speed OF ” g ” which is THE speed an object goes in Free fall without any résistance from THE air ( 9,81 m/s) .What gives THE speed OF THE clubhead is THE combination OF the fast hip turn and THE release OF THE club !

  3. Hi Bobby: I’m a left hand golfer. In my set-up at address, should I set my plane to the right or to the left.

    Thanks:

  4. Bobby, I am hitting all my shots high, irons and woods alike. Even using an 8.5 lofted drive I hit really high shots. What is the cause of this?

I am struggling to maintain a consistent golf swing. When I practice my swing, I feel great, but when I go to the range or the Tee Box, I can’t hit the ball consistently. Do you know what the problem is and can you recommend any drills to fix this?

Bobby, how to you judge the distance that the ball will carry out of the sand? Is there a formula you use to judge the amount of back swing?

Hi Bobby,

I recall during the Porter Cup you gave me a tip on pitch shots… to wait until you feel the weight of the club in your right index finger before pulling down. It works to this day! But I never did learn how to hit down on the ball and take that divot after the strike. So, I think you’re onto something, but at age 78 I’m not sure if I can learn it. But I’m willing to give it a try, so any tips you can provide would be appreciated.

Bobby, I notice your right foot slips minutely clockwise as you initiate the downswing. I think this is actually a good drill to practice. Keeps the right heel down and facilitates a slide rather than a spin into the downswing.

I can’t seem to find a starter for my backswing. I stand over the shot too long, and I seem to freeze there. I’m 76 years old and play to a 12 index.
