Champions Tour Player Bill Glasson on lag

Bobby’s Answer

Bill Glasson is a colleague of mine on the Champions Tour.  He understands, just like we do , the importance of lag.

Week in and week out, he sees his pro-am players dumping lag, losing speed, distance, contact, etc.  Here he talks about “dumpers and laggers” and I’m sure you can guess who the “dumpers” are.

If you really want to improve your Clubhead Leg, I’d urge you to have a look at our training program: Clubhead Lag Home Study Course.

  1. Im realy having a hart time keeping my back angle,it cant be as hard as seems.whats a good drill for working on back angle in the swing?

  2. Thank You Bobby for all your videos and imparted knowledge from the impact zone! I have always had lag, too much lag for many years and I blocked everything right a bit. My issues with this was hitting too many fat shots as well. As I aged and had spinal surgery, my swing changed out of necessity. I am now a picker of sorts, but I make solid contact and I have gained considerable control with out hardly any loss of distance because of equipment but more due to impact. I am down to a 6 HC, but I only take tiny tiny divots with my short irons and hardly any with the longer irons. I don’t know how or why I am able to pick the ball so accurately, but I think it’s because I have mastered my clubhead lag, and moved my swing bottom approx 4″ in front. If I can tee the ball up like on Par 3’s I am deadly accurate and take a proper divot, but on a perfect lie in the tight cut fairway I pick it, generally well but should be better. I also have very good hands and coordination which is the key in all of this. Can you explain to me if smaller divots equates to more consistency using your 4″ swing bottom with proper lag? And maybe some drills to take a bit more divot off of close mowed fairways? Thank You!

I have. been hiting behind the ball. Wether it’s the driver, or any
other club. What do I do stop hiting ground and miss hitting the ball first?

  4. Amen. After all this time @ 2 years. Its all making sense and it really works. More distance, divot. Ya Hoo. All I had to do is make the club handle go faster than the club head. Now I bump the work horse and rotate and wow. Thank You. Bobby and Bill.

Thanks for all the great tips! I really enjoy them, but I need your help. I’m an 8 handicap player and score okay, however, I know I save the shot with my hands and want the feeling of being able to let it go through impact. Any tips or drills to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.
