Question

Why can’t you just move the ball back in your stance to move the swing bottom forward?

Bobby’s Answer

Great question Rick,

As you know, a powerful, accurate golf swing utilizes load, lag, and workhorse, which results in a 4-inch in front swing bottom and a great shot. But when a situation arises where you can’t rely on load, lag, and workhorse, what do you do?

A common scenario where this occurs is chipping, and this is when you can move the ball further back in your stance.

In order to hit the ball in the downswing and achieve the 4-inch in front swing bottom, you can move the ball back in your stance on a long chip, but don’t cheat yourself!

Remember that using load, lag, and the workhorse is what produces great impact.

  1. Bobby as I remarked about a year ago that I have a hard time training myself to take a divot and your response was I was losing much power by not taking the proper divot. Wanting to correct this I was wondering if going to the practice range that have artificial turf will help or hinder my process.
    Thanks Brian

  2. Bobby.
Sure enjoyed having dinner with you and your lovely bride at The Stocker Cup in October. Your clinic was very informative and entertaining! I am enjoying playing with controlling the low point of my swing! Wishing you the best, Steve Hudson
