Question

Can you help me with my aiming point for the fairway woods? I seem to be pulling or hooking, and this was not a problem before.

Bobby’s Answer

David, this is a great question. First of all- keep your aiming point the same for all the clubs in your bag. You shouldn’t be changing your angle of attack between clubs. Second: if you want consistent ball striking with your woods, focus your energy forward of the ball to maintain the 4-inch in front swing bottom every time. I explain in today’s video:

  1. Paul zelesnick here , thank U Bobby , I can’t wait to get out and try it !! I have trouble taking devits with my irons ( I’m 74 ) had my shoulder operated on a year ago, and just can’t seem to finish through the ball correctly !!

  2. I’ve been having the same problem pull/hooking my woods as well. I have tried focusing 4 inches ahead of the ball, but I’ll either pull the shot or hit it thin.

  3. Thanks.
I’m playing golf this morning and I shall concentrate on the aiming since I do pull shots because an old habit of swing across the ball instead of swing gang through it. My question concerns playing golf while also going through cardiac rehabilitation. I had open heart surgery just under five months ago and am trying to swing easier now with ball contact more important than swing speed until I gain more stamina. I am over 70 years of age and do remember reading in “Golf” magazine to “swing easy, hit hard” quote in the 1960’s publications. My doctors have cleared me to play golf, just try not to over do it. Before the surgery, scored in 90’s. Thanks again,

  4. Your aiming poiny aid seemed to be positioned 10-12″ in front of your ball. Why is your aid so far in front of your aim point?

    1. Pete

Seem to need more Sh Tx on fwd swing to square up the shorter the irons and less – min if any lower body.
But need more lower body involvement on longer clubs espec the D.
Could you relate sh tx and lower body involvement as function of the

  5. I watched your video hitting the rescue or maybe 5 wood, but noticed discussion about bottom of swing arc but did not see any divot. How does the club bottom out 4 inches in front without taking a divot?

  6. I understand the swing bottom and the aiming point are two different things. However, my question is where is his focus? At the swing bottom or the aiming point or neither???

  7. Question about the 4″ swing bottom. If you concentrating on the 4″ swing bottom, your head will be behind the swing bottom at impact, but couldn’t you head be ahead of the ball which is incorrect.

  8. Bobby, Thank you for teaching impact and the 4inch bottom swing. The results are amazing. One question I would like clarification on, is the bunker shot always a problem. Info from the past has been hit 2inches behind the ball but I guess you will have other guidance.

  9. I have trouble hitting the fairway woods behind the ball do you have any suggestions as to why that happens.
