Pat Parrish

Master Instructor

Patrick Parrish has had a lifelong passion for golf. Growing up in the agricultural town of Woodland, California, Patrick spent many weekends and summers on the fairways of Yolo Fliers Country Club, where corn and alfalfa fields comprise the outer rough. During other vacations, he worked for his grandfather, Earl Henderson, who owned and operated Atascadero Golf Club in Atascadero, California. It was there that Patrick not only honed his golf game, but learned the business of golf course management, doing everything from mowing fairways and working on machinery, to caddying and working in the golf shop. Patrick went on to become one of the State’s top ranked junior golfers, but wanted to further develop his skills beyond the limitations of Woodland and rural Northern California.

When he found out that the Carmel High School golf team played Pebble Beach Golf Links twice a week, he managed a rare intra-state transfer from Woodland High School to Carmel for his senior year. This brought him closer to his lifelong teacher and mentor, Ben Doyle of Quail Lodge. At Quail Lodge, Patrick also assisted the Golf Digest Schools with Jim Flick, Jack Lumpkin, and Tom Ness — who all eventually became Top 100 Instructors.

Patrick later played for Eddie Merrins to join the #1 UCLA Bruins golf team in the early 1980s, playing alongside future PGA Tour stars Corey Pavin, Steve Pate, Duffy Waldorf, and Tom Pernice. Patrick went on to graduate from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. He then proceeded to the University of California at Berkeley where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in English Literature. Following his junior and collegiate success, Patrick played a short time on the Nike (Today’s Nationwide Tour) and Asian Tours, but realized that his love and passion was in the successful development of players.

Patrick eventually returned to the Monterey Peninsula in the mid-1990s and was offered a position at the Pebble Beach Golf Academy by Laird Small. There he developed his own lesson business and managed the Academy’s corporate clinics. During this same period, Patrick was able to work with other Top 100 golf instructors including Hank Haney, Butch Harmon, David Ledbetter, and Jim Flick. In addition, Patrick also worked alongside PGA Tour stars Mark O’Meara, Johnny Miller, Ken Venturi, David Feherty, Hal Sutton, Andy North, Davis Love III, Curtis Strange, and David Duval. In 2004, Patrick moved to Poppy Hills Golf Course where he became Lead Instructor and Tournament Director.  Patrick is currently Head of Instruction at Nicklaus Club Monterey.
