Lee Martin, Impact Zone Golf Master Instructor, was Bobby’s first golf instructor and very influential in getting Bobby his fast start in playing golf. He is the Director of Instruction, River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, CA.
I attended Los Angeles State College (now California State University Los Angeles) and was California Collegiate Athletic Champion in 1961. I was selected to play on the twelve-man NCAA West Team against the East Team in 1961 held at the NCAA Championship at the Purdue University. The West won with Jack Nicklaus on the East squad. I turned professional in 1963 and worked as the First Assistant to M.R. “Babe” Lazane at the Bakersfield Country Club. Mr. Lazane was one of the finest teachers in the San Joaquin Valley. In 1967 I became the First Assistant to Jim Blakeley (Al Geiberger’s instructor) at Olivas Park Golf Course in Ventura, California and worked on developing my teaching. I became a member of the PGA in 1967. In 1969 I became the Head Professional at the Carmel Valley Golf and Country Club where I introduced Bobby Clampett to the game of golf and was able to work with him for four years. I also worked with junior golfer Janet Coles during this time period. In 1973 I moved to Emerald Hills Country Club in South Florida and further developed my teaching before moving back to Los Altos Golf & Country Club in 1975. As the Head Professional there I was able to teach Dan Forsman, with whom I still have a close relationship. In 1979 I became the Head Professional at Saticoy Country Club in Southern California and worked with Duffy Waldorf and other junior golfers who became collegiate All Americans. I retired from Saticoy Country Club in 1998 and became the Director of Instruction at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, California. Through my career I have been blessed with being able to play with some of golf’s greatest players such as Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead and Kathy Whitworth and be on the lesson tee with Bobby Clampett, Dan Forsman, Janet Coles and Duffy Waldorf. None of them have the same swing styles but their swing styles fit their bodies. The thing that they have in common is the moment of impact with a flat left wrist and the club face is on a straight line plane toward the target. The IMPACT ZONE™ Five Dynamics make teaching easy.
