Champions Tour First Major of 2011

Alabama’s renowned Shoal Creek is the site of the Champions Tour first major of 2011 – the Regions Tradition. A Jack Nicklaus-designed layout, Shoal Creek played host to the 1984 and 1990 PGA Championships.

In the final round, Loren Roberts made a huge run, firing a 7-under 65.  However, Roberts fell just short of Tom Lehman and Peter Senior.  Lehman went 3-under on Sunday, with a bogey-free round, carding two birdies on the front nine, and adding another birdie on 15.  The Aussie Senior closed with a 4-under in the final round.  Senior had five birdies on the day, but a critical bogey on 7 may have cost him the title.  His score was good enough to catch Lehman and force a playoff.

Lehman took care of business in the playoff and bested Senior to win the Champions Tour first Major of 2011.  Lehman is coming off a year in which he split time between the PGA and the Champions tours.  On the senior circuit, Lehman had a win and nine top-10 finishes in 14 events played.  He also made nine starts on the PGA Tour in 2010, coming home with four top-25 finishes.

Congratulations to Tom Lehman on his playoff victory over Peter Senior.
